On visits to his daughter’s home, a father gathers mementos from cherished life moments, seeking to preserve memories, and knowing that soon he will be incapable of remembering.
When you invite me to your home I study the books and knick-knacks on your shelves, the photos on your walls, and the curio in your china cabinet. I catalog your most treasured finery. Left alone in any room I look through drawers for birthday cards and bric-a-brac. While you cook dinner, I play hide-and-seek with the children. While they hide, I riffle through toy boxes, peek under beds, and run my hand under mattresses to find favorite toys...
